Fulcrum VIO-X Video Card

The Fulcrum Computer Products VIO-X is a video card. It can display 25 lines (24 data and 1 status) of 80 characters. It has many of the functions normally associated with memory mapped IO cards of the era, i.e. reverse video, hardware scrolling. What makes this card somewhat unusual is that it is accessed via I/O ports just like a terminal connected to a serial port. While you might think it would be slower than memory mapped cards, that isn't the case at all. With the video card hardware doing the formatting, it allows the system processor to do other useful work. It also really simplified my CBIOS video drivers!

This card supports reverse video, underline, blink (love that blink!), along with more advanced functions like delete to end of line and writing to the status line. These functions are controlled by escape sequences sent to the card's output port.

Some extras are included on the card: a speaker port, a parallel keyboard port, and a clock! I haven't tested the clock to see if it is Y2K compliant.
