Using NewsSpoof

No documentation is included in the .zip file so you may want to print this page.

NewsSpoof runs unobtrusively alongside DirecPC's Personal news server. The only options are Exit found under the File menu item and About which is found under the Help menu item.

There are several indicators on the NewsSpoof Panel.

On the left side of the panel are several bits of information about the remote system, that is the system where the news reader software is running.

  • The LED indicator is red when NewsSpoof is idle and waiting for a connection request from a remote system. It will turn green when a connection is active.
  • Underneath the LED is the name of the remote system currently in session with NewsSpoof.
  • Finally, the port number NewsSpoof is using to communicate with the LAN attached PC is shown.

On the right side of the panel are several bits of information about the local system, ie the PC where NewsSpoof and Personal News server are running.

In the middle is a 'Direction' LED. This was used primarly for debugging. This LED will be red or green when a connection has been established with a remote system. Green means that it is the remote system's 'turn' to send something, Red means that the program has sent a request to Personal News Server and is waiting for a response. In theory, red is bad, green is good.
